About Us

EPN is an Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science under Award Number DE-SC0023431. EPN strives to advance the frontiers of discovery and fundamental, interdisciplinary knowledge in photochemical energy conversion, thereby helping to train the next generation of diverse scientists and engineers who will positively impact our planet. Moreover, due to EPN’s use-inspired motivation, outcomes of the basic science will be transformative, providing critical details to inform a route to meeting the DOE Hydrogen Shot cost target.

EPN consists of 17 senior investigators across 9 universities and 3 U.S. national laboratories. It consists of experts from distinct, but convergent, scientific and engineering communities with an extensive track record of collaboration. EPN is led by Professor Shane Ardo at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) with co-investigators from the state of California, the state of Colorado, and the US Northeast.
