EPN’s Wenjie Zang, a Postdoc in the Pan Group at UCI, has started a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rochester. Her group aims to advance next-generation catalytic materials and devices for applications in energy, water, and the environment leveraging her expertise in spatially resolved scanning transmission electron microscopy and spectroscopies. Congratulations to EPN’s Hyuna Kwon and the researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), including Marcos Calegari Andrade, Tuan Anh Pham, and Tadashi Ogitsu, for their groundbreaking discovery revealing a new mechanism that enhances the efficiency of hydrogen production through water splitting. Their study, titled “Confinement Effects on Proton Transfer in TiO2 Nanopores from Machine Learning Potential Molecular Dynamics Simulations,” received the honor of being featured as front cover art and highlighted in LLNL’s Newsline.

EPN’s Gordana Dukovic has been named a recipient of the National Brown Investigator Award. EPN’s Levi Palmer, a graduate student in the Cushing Group at Caltech, is a recipient of a 2024 SCGSR award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to work with Argonne National Laboratory to develop first-of-its-kind ultrafast TEM capabilities. The goal of the program is to prepare graduate students for STEM careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission, by providing graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories. EPN’s Rohini Bala Chadran at the University of Michigan is the recipient of the 2023 Bergles-Rohsenow Young Investigator Award in Heat Transfer. This award is given annually from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to a young engineer who has demonstrated the potential to make significant contributions to the field of heat transfer in the form of analytical/numerical methods, equipment/instrumentation, or experimentation.
